UNDC is governed by a 15-member board who serve without compensation. Eight members are appointed by the Governor, five are appointed by the Mayor after consultation with the Secretary-General of the UN and the United States Ambassador to the UN, and two serve ex officio by virtue of their offices as Chairman of the New York City Planning Commission and Commissioner of the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development. The Mayor designates one of the members appointed by him or her as Chairman of the Board.
